Illuminating an LED is a complex and demanding process. With the increasing popularity of LEDs in lighting technology, demand for reliable, long-lasting production facilities is growing enormously. PLANSEE significantly improves the productivity of LED component manufacturing facilities with its key components made of refractory metals. This both applies to the single crystal growth and MOCVD processes, which are vital in the production of LEDs.
Plansee supplies pressed sintered as well as spun version molybdenum and tungsten crucibles for all common single crystal growth methods. For MOCVD reactors Plansee supplies components such as heating elements, heat shields and spindles made of molybdenum, tungsten and their alloys. As both production stages take place at incredibly high temperatures, molybdenum and tungsten are ideal for use here. The high melting points of the materials (2,620° Celsius for molybdenum and 3,420° Celsius for tungsten) means the operating temperatures required to melt the sapphire pose no problem whatsoever. The materials’ high degree of purity prevents any contamination of the single crystal, while they are also able to withstand significant chemical pressures during the MOCVD process.
