Our strictpurchasing guidelines ensure thatno materialsare obtained fromconflict-affected sources.Theuse of tantalumraw materials fromethically acceptablesourceshasnow been confirmedby the certificateof the ElectronicIndustry CitizenshipCoalition (EICC). The audit certificate covers allsteps ofmaterialproduction.
The auditas partof the "Conflict-Free Smelter" program, jointly supported by the EICC and theGlobalE-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), isa voluntary commitmentbyPLANSEE and an important verificationfor the electronicsindustry.It serves as independentproof for the company andits customers thatthe use of conflict tantalum is renounced. These are materials which are mined mainly in the Democratic Republic of Congo and adjoining countries under sub-human conditionsand which contributeto the financingof wars.
Conflict-free tantalumisan important raw materialforPLANSEE. It is especially processed inproductsfor the electronicsindustry, chemical industryandin applications for medicaldiagnostics. Both in theconsumer electronicsas well as in modern communication deviceslikecell phones,tantalumcapacitorsare a keyelectronic component.
Well-known electronics companies and their suppliers are members of the "Conflict-Free Smelter" program. The Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (http://www.eicc.info/) is an independent organization that, together with the Global Sustainability Initiative GeSI (http://www.gesi.org/), supports companies looking for more transparency in the procurement of raw materials and to applying common industry standards for ethical business practices.
